Rock Is the Last Step, Not the First
Most failed driveways around here have the same story: somebody dumped rock on soft dirt and hoped. Without a shaped subgrade the rock disappears into the ground; without crown and ditching the water sits in the wheel tracks and takes the surface with it.
We build in order — shape, drain, base, compact. That is why the finished drive sheds water toward the ditch instead of holding it in the middle.

Southeast Texas gumbo moves. It swells wet and cracks dry, which is exactly why drainage and compaction matter more here than the amount of rock on top. We build with that in mind and tell you honestly when a section needs more work than it looks like it does.

- Can you build a gravel driveway from scratch?
- Yes. We shape the subgrade, set proper crown and drainage, then place and compact base material so the road holds up instead of washing out after the first heavy rain.
- Why do gravel drives wash out?
- Almost always water. A flat drive with no crown and nowhere for runoff to go will rut and pothole no matter how much rock goes on it. Getting the shape and the ditching right is what makes the difference.
- Do I need a culvert at the entrance?
- If the drive crosses a roadside ditch, yes. A properly sized culvert set at the right depth keeps the ditch flowing and keeps the entrance from washing. We install culverts as part of driveway work.
- Can you fix an existing road instead of rebuilding it?
- Often. If the base is still sound we can reshape, re-crown, clean up the drainage and top it with fresh material. If the base is gone, patching it is money down a hole and we'll tell you that.
- Do you build interior ranch roads and pads too?
- Yes — interior ranch roads, turnarounds, equipment lanes and compacted building pads for shops, barndominiums and ag structures.
